A wood burning outdoor fireplace made to be the centrepiece of your patio or outdoor area – and to last for decades. Built from 6mm and 8mm steel, several times thicker than most outdoor fires sold in New Zealand, it holds its heat, stands up to the weather, and won’t warp or burn through.
A generous wood storage bay sits under the firebox, so your firewood stays dry and close at hand.

A Steel Outdoor Fireplace Built for Real Fires
The wide, low firebox gives you a big flame picture and serious radiant heat – a proper wood fire, not a token flame behind glass. An internal deflector plate helps it draw cleanly, and a tall stainless steel flue with spark arrestor carries smoke up and away from your seating area.
Because it’s finished on all four sides, it looks as good from behind as from the front. Place it against a wall or make it the centrepiece in the middle of your patio.
Custom Laser-Cut Artwork – Designed by You
What sets our outdoor fireplace apart is that you help design it. Choose from our range of laser-cut stainless steel artwork, or bring us your own idea – a family name, your dog’s name, a favourite motif, or a design that ties in with your outdoor theme. Each piece is mounted off the surface for a 3D effect that catches the sun by day and the firelight by night.
We cut every piece in-house on our own CNC laser, so custom designs don’t mean outsourcing or long waits.
Black or Corten Steel Finish
Choose a black coating for a clean, modern look, or Corten steel for a natural rust patina that weathers into its surroundings. Corten is priced on application.
Made in North Canterbury, Near Christchurch
Every fireplace is designed and built in our own workshop in Swannanoa, North Canterbury, just north of Christchurch. Smartweld has been fabricating steel since 2006. Pick up from our workshop, or we’ll quote freight anywhere in New Zealand.

Can I supply my own artwork?
Yes. Send us a sketch, photo, logo or file and we’ll work out how to laser cut it in stainless steel. Family names, pets and motifs all work well.
How long does it take?

Can you make it a different size?
Yes. Our standard size is 1500mm W x 1500mm H x 600mm D (excluding flue), but we build to suit. Tell us your space and we’ll quote.
What’s the difference between black coating and Corten?
Black coating gives a clean, modern finish. Corten steel forms a natural rust-coloured patina that weathers over time. Corten is priced on application.
How is this different from a cheap imported outdoor fire?
Most imported fires use thin steel that can warp or rust through within a few seasons. Ours is 6–8mm steel, hand-built in New Zealand, finished on all four sides, and personalised with your own laser-cut artwork.
