Custom industrial safety guarding can be designed to meet your safety requirements. Nowadays, machine safety guarding is a must for any industrial environment. We can manufacture to suit your requirements for barriers, laser cut and folded panels, static and interlocked guards for machinery, perimeter guarding to prevent access into hazardous areas, or to help create an exclusion zone to eliminate machinery damage from forklifts.
Most types of machine guarding is made first and foremost to protect the machine operator, although we do create the capability for the guarding system to be removable by the machine operator, for machine maintenance and it can be interlocked if necessary, depending on the application.

Our customer asked us to design perimeter static guards around the machines within their operation for safe work conditions. These safety guards must also need to be removed easily to gain access to machinery for maintenance, incorporating interlocking gates, and included a 20 metre sliding gate opening to load raw materials. All this without floor obstructions such as tracks. Smartweld custom designed this project with all aspects in mind, and the resulting safety devices were perfect to meet our customer’s health and workplace safety criteria.

Roll former static guarding. Another customer in Rolleston asked us to manufacture and install static guarding around their sheet roll former to prevent staff access around potential pinch points in the machinery as part of their health and safety policy.
Industrial Machine Safety Requirements In New Zealand
In New Zealand, industrial machine safety requirements are governed by the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and specific regulations such as the Health and Safety in Employment (Pressure Equipment, Cranes, and Passenger Ropeways) Regulations 1999. Employers must ensure that machinery is safe to use. NZ safety standards involve conducting regular risk assessments, implementing appropriate safety measures like guards and emergency stop devices, and ensuring machinery is properly maintained and inspected.
